Consul-General Yong Jun CHOI Attends Commemoration of 71th Anniversary of Korean War Armistice

DATE
2024-08-13

On July 27th, 2024, Consul-General Yong Jun CHOI attended a ceremony commemorating the 71st anniversary of the Korean War Armistice at the Korean War Memorial in Moore Park. He delivered a commemorative speech, and laid a wreath expressing gratitude to both veterans and Australian society for their sacrifice and dedication.

In his remarks, Consul-General Choi expressed his regret that Korean War veterans are leaving us one by one due to old age, and reaffirmed that their noble spirit of sacrifice will never be forgotten.

He also said that Korea aims to further contribute to regional peace and stability as it moves beyond past wounds and strives to repay international support.

Furthermore, he promised that he will do his best to ensure that the story of Australia’s commitment to Korea 71 years ago will be passed on to more people, especially future generations.

The Guardians of the Korean War Memorial Management Committee holds the July 27th Armistice Commemoration Ceremony each year, with the support of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney. This year’s ceremony was attended by a number of guests including Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of NSW, the Honourable Scott Farlow MLC, and Colonel Neil Peake representing the Commander of Forces Command. Consular representatives from countries that participated in the Korean War were also present, in addition to a number of representatives from veterans’ organisations, and members from the Korean community.
