Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney

On 5th November 2024, the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney hosted its annual National Day Reception. The event was held at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Point Piper, and was attended by a number of dignitaries, including Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of NSW, members of the NSW Legislative Council, Legislative Assembly, and the consular corps.

During the event, Consul-General Yong Jun Choi spoke of National Day’s significance as a reminder of Korea’s unique history. Consul-General Choi reflected on Korea and NSW’s mutually beneficial bilateral relationship, and noted the growing interest in Korean music, culture and literature in Australia. Her Excellency the Governor also spoke at the reception, and commented on Korea and NSW’s enduring partnership.

After the remarks, the traditional Korean music ensemble PURĔ performed three songs – Arirang (아리랑), Beautiful Country (아름다운 나라), and I Am Australian. Later, guests at the reception had the opportunity to try Korean rice wine supported by Korean Agro-Fisheries and food Trade Corporation (aT) and Korean-style canapes from CJ Foods Oceania. All guests were also given a handmade selection of traditional desserts, as well as some snack foods from CJ Foods Oceania.
